Working in teams of 4-6, using beacon stickers, you'll develop a new app or solution for one of the following sectors:

  • Retail (supermarkets, clothing retailers, department stores, chain stores etc)
  • Financial services (banks, building societies, insurance companies etc)
  • Public sector – the Home Office, Department for Education, local government services, HMRC, DVLA etc)
  • Health – NHS, doctors’ surgeries, pharmacy stores, hospitals, clinics, maternity services etc)

Prior to the event you can research ideas but you can’t begin coding. All code and artefacts developed at the event should be stored in public GitHub repositories.

WHAT’S PROVIDED?

We’ll provide you with 4 beacon stickers per team, plus the iOS and Android APIs. There’ll be WiFi and power sockets and the main mobile network providers report good 4G coverage: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone.

We also intend to have people on hand who have some experience of working with beacon stickers, to help with any initial queries or problems.

REFRESHMENTS & FOOD

There will be plenty of food and drinks available throughout the day - we guarantee you won’t go hungry. Please let us know any dietary requirements when you register.

BRING YOUR OWN LAPTOP

This is a bring-your-own-laptop event, this includes any associated chargers and any peripherals you need.

Each team will need development environments and tools for android and/or iPhone app development, android/iPhone handsets, and the ability to deploy their apps to their handsets.

We're keen that developers, who take part on their own time, retain the IP that they create. However to generate the widest benefit from this event we encourage them to provide Open Source licences for the results of their creativity by creating a Public Repository on Github with an MIT license (http://choosealicense.com)

REGISTER

Pre-registration is required. Spaces at this hackathon are limited and we’ll confirm whether or not you have a place as soon as we can. If you are allocated a place and then your plans change please let us know in advance so we can pass it on to someone on our waiting list.

And as you’d expect there’s no admittance unless you’ve pre-registered.

Personalised Lego Mini Figures

We’re looking for developers who want to join us because of the challenge of the event but as a small incentive we’ll also be giving away some freebies to everyone who takes part. And for the winning team, each person will receive a personalized LEGO mini-figure of themself as a reward for being the best on the day.

If you ‘re looking for a hackathon where the focus is a cash prize then this event isn’t for you. We’re on the lookout for passionate developers who want to build something cool – in return we’ll keep you well fed, provide you with access to the experts and if you’re not already working with Transform on developer projects, who knows, you may be in the future.
